Director and Associate Professor
Must have an earned doctorate, and at least one degree from an ALA-accredited program or its equivalent; experience in education for library and information services; and a record of scholarly research and publication that meets criteria for appointment at the associate professor level. The following are also required: a clear vision for education in librarianship and information studies, consistent with the mission and goals of the GSLIS; commitment to the integration of emerging information theory and technologies into the program; strong leadership skills and a management style appropriate to a collegial, mutually supportive environment; the ability to develop collaborative arrangements across disciplinary and organizational boundaries, and to work with external publics, especially the library and information science community; and commitment to distance education.
Preference will be given to candidates with the following: demonstrated fund-raising and grant-writing ability; an established record of significant contributions to professional organizations such as the American Library Association; experience with distance education and educational technology; and teaching and research in areas that complement and extend existing faculty strengths (e.g., information science and technology, the information economy, public librarianship, government publications, or research methods). This is a full-time, tenure-track, continuing appointment, beginning in the spring, 1998.
